Allotmenteering!
I love this! I really need to add some colour to my allotment!

I love this! I really need to add some colour to my allotment!

Just watched this very handy video about how to earth up potatoes, it all makes sense to me now (although it has made me wonder if I’ve planted my potatoes a tad close together…)

Second bed, different crops  according to companion planting and square foot gardening.

This is interesting, but it seems like an awful lot to cram into a square foot! my planting is all based on square meters and I do try to plant things fairly close but square foot planting seems like it would be quite expensive and I’d have thought that planting so close together may lead to an increase diseases?

Keen to get peoples thoughts?

Why earth up potatoes?

I’m still not really clear on this, there is a lot of info on the internet about HOW to earth them up but no info about WHY? What would happen if I didn’t earth them up? When do I stop earthing them up?

Hello Mr potato!
I’m super happy to see my first potato leaves poking through - whoop!

The last harvest of 2011

This is being de-bugged, blanched and then frozen in batches to keep me going for a couple of weeks. its so delicious and to think, I was days away from pulling it up to make room for broad beans!
more patience needed.

Happy broad beans?

I hardened off my broad beans in my makeshift coldframe and intended to plant them out over a week ago, but a truly horrendous hangover and a weeks downpour kept me away from the plot. So when I came to plant them out all their roots had become tangled together and some were damaged as I tried to separate them :( so fingers crossed they will make a full recovery!

This is a super fantastic idea! imagine doing it with herbs!!

This is very pretty, not sure how it would work at an allotment but I’d really like to give it a go!

It might be nice with tumbling tomatoes

Indoor gardening is going well, no casualties yet! But I need to make room for cucumbers, peppers, sweetcorn and runner beans and I’ve run out of toilet rolls!

Very excited to go along to this with my allotment neighbours!

Its 15.34 and I’m desperate to get to the allotment is that a bit sad?
